. A new genus and species of diogenid, Tisea grandis , is described from the Timor Sea. It is a very large species, probably the largest marine hermit crab. It is most similar to the genera Dardanus and Petrochirus but is dist inguished by a combination of characters pertaining to the pattern of lineae and sulci on the carapace, the morphology of the chelipeds and the twisting of the dactyl of second and third pereiopods.
