What matters? Talking value in Australian culture

M. O’Brien

Published 2019 in Cultural Trends

ABSTRACT

“When did the value of culture become solely a matter of the quantifiable benefits it provides, and the latter become subject to input-output analysis in what government budgets refer to as ‘the cultural function’?”. Moreover, the authors of this significant intervention in the field of cultural value ask, “Why did it happen, and why does it keep happening?” (Meyrick, Phiddian, & Barnett, 2018, p. vii).
