Abstract Food borne pathogens have been the primary causative factor for high mortality rate due to waterborne diseases worldwide. Dielectrophoresis offers an alternate solution to traditional methods for classifying and removing microorganisms in selective, rapid and reversible manner. This study investigates the removal of foodborne pathogens using dielectrophoretic filter with different voltage and frequency. Experiments are conducted using food samples that are artificially contaminated by E. coli, S. aureus, S. typhi and Pseudomonas spp. Results indicate that the AC signal of 15 V with 1 MHz frequency is suitable for removing bacterial population. The efficiency of DEP system is also analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope.
