ABSTRACT

Abstract Recently, electrochemical sensors containing peptide elements have emerged a tremendous boost because of peptides' intrinsic stability in various environments, biocompatibility, conductive properties, and ability to specifically bind large biomolecules with interest in the area of medical diagnosis. Peptides are versatile elements for a wide range of affinity and enzymatic electrochemical assays, being able to act as electron mediators. Moreover, short helical peptides can fold in specific configurations with the possibility to develop highly ordered supramolecular architectures. Herein, we present the latest achievements in electrochemical peptide-based biosensors and voltammetric techniques available to study the electron transfer in peptide coatings.
