ABSTRACT

The cause of Parkinson disease (PD) remains unknown, but current evidence points to the interplay of aging, environmental factors, genetic predisposition, inflammation, excitotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative/nitrosative stress as underlying mechanisms.1 Based on epidemiologic and experimental data,2 uric acid (UA) has emerged as a potential new player in the jigsaw of PD pathophysiology.
