Abstract We report FRET (Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer) between CdS QDs (Quantum Dots) and NR (Neutral Red) dye acceptors using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy. The results reveal an enhancement in the NR emission intensity due to energy transfer from CdS donor to the NR dye acceptor which is discussed in light of Forster’s theory. The outcome of the present work provides a platform for designing biochemical sensors and bioimaging with the unique properties of QDs. This study also shows the feasibility of using QD- dye pairs in FRET-based solar cell applications.
