Abstract A three-dimensionally preserved phosphatized cyanobacterial fossil assemblage tentatively identified as a distinct calcified cyanobacterial combination of oscillatorialeans and rivulariacean is recognized in the latest Ediacaran in the southern Shaanxi Province, China based on the morphological and preservation modes. Oscillatorialean cyanobacteria herein contain 3 genera which are Girvanella, Obruchevella and Subtifloria with thin-walled tubes tangled, coiled or aligned. A kind of fan-shaped fossils composed of filaments with tapered trichomes and pseudo-branches, Cambricodium, is clarified as calcified rivulariacean cyanobacteria. Prosperous calcified cyanobacteria co-occurring with the earliest mineralized skeletal tubular fossils Cloudina and Sinotubulites. In addition to contributing new morphological and preservation information, the discovery of these cyanobacteria perhaps strengthens the case for prosperity in cyanobacterial calcification in the terminal Neoproterozoic.
