ABSTRACT

Abstract In this chapter, we introduce the reader to the fundamental concepts that outline pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD). Basic terms are defined and presented along with the related mathematical equations that permit us to explore the relationships between dose, exposure, and response. Selected clinical examples are provided to assist the reader in solidifying their understanding of these concepts. It is the intent that this overview will lessen the perception that PK and PD represent a somewhat esoteric discipline.
