Graphical Abstract Summary: Two groups of 12 calves were used to determine whether glycerol could be included at 15% of the milk replacer formula replacing lactose. Liquid glycerol was added to a base milk replacer at each feeding. Calves were fed the diets from d 3 of age to d 49. There were no differences between treatments in body weight, stature measurements, gain:feed, or health issues. Glycerol can replace 37.5% of the lactose (15% of the formula) in milk replacer with no loss of performance.
