Graphical Abstract Summary: The objective of this study was to validate an infrared thermography (IRT) camera for measuring calf body temperature. Researchers followed a total of 318 dairy calves daily for 14 consecutive days taking ocular temperatures with IRT and rectal temperatures using a digital thermometer. With reference to the rectal thermometer, the IRT used was neither accurate nor precise, and was biased for estimating body temperature in the calves. We suggest that this IRT system cannot serve as a proxy for rectal temperature.
