The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test was applied to students entering the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering course at the Escola Politécnica da USP (São Paulo/Brazil) between the years 2017 and 2021, in order to identify the psychological characteristics of entering students. Through this methodology, resources are obtained to understand the learning mode of these students, through the knowledge of their types of preferences. In view of the psychological information obtained, the data was submitted to the FLIGNER-KILLEEN Homogeneity verification, Exploratory Anomaly Data Analysis (OUTLIERS) and the Nonparametric Multivariate Analysis KRUSKAL-WALLIS in order to observe the existence or not of differences between the profiles observed throughout the years in which the test was applied. With the results obtained, the MBTI profiles were verified and alternatives were indicated for the use of the Active Learning in Engineering method, which advocates the use of non-traditional educational resources for teaching engineering concepts and techniques.
