This study investigates the mechanism by which the nuclear cap-binding complex (CBC) promotes splicing. The authors used mass spectrometry to identify proteins that interact with the CBC complex. A surprising observation is that CBC interacts more strongly with the tri-snRNP than the U1 snRNP. This paper shows that CBC promotes pre-mRNA splicing through a network of interactions with and among spliceosomal snRNPs during cotranscriptional spliceosome assembly.
