Freshwater protected areas can preserve high-performance phenotypes in populations of a popular sportfish

The findings presented here showcase how freshwater protected areas, where all forms of fisheries are prohibited, can provide physiological benefits and improved catchability in wild populations of largemouth bass. These findings support the use of freshwater protected area as an effective conservation strategy to improve contemporary fisheries management and conservation practices.
