ABSTRACT Trionychid turtles are rare in the fossil record of the Eastern Mediterranean and therefore, knowledge about their presence is restricted both geographically and stratigraphically. In this work, the first record of a fossil trionychid from the Plio-Pleistocene of Kos Island, Greece, is presented, extending the known distribution of trionychids in Greece both geographically and chronologically. Together with a record from the Early Pleistocene of Italy, the new find from Kos represents the youngest occurrence of soft-shelled turtles from Europe. The occasional presence of the extant Trionyx triunguis in the area of south-eastern Aegean Islands is also discussed.
