The detection of a Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radiofrequency Identification (RFID) tag is usually estimated by using the free-space Friis equation. However, in many scenarios the Friis equation can not be used because the distance between the reader and tag antennas is too short (e.g. the two antennas are in the near-field region each other) or the propagating field can not be considered as a locally plane wave. In this paper, some preliminary results are shown about the detection of a tag placed inside a guided structure.
