Ряжский острог: эволюция понятий от крепости до застенка тюремной избы

В статье показана трансформация ряжского острога в тюремный застенок. Актуальность исследования заключается в более подробном изучении истории одного из древних городов центральной России, Ряжска, в контексте изменения функций оборонного механизма Московского государства. Выделяется несколько этапов эволюции острога: строительство как оборонительного сооружения в середине XVI века; трансформация в Ряжское городское поселение с социокультурным населением; потеря стратегического значения после расширения государственной границы и получение статуса провинции Переяславль-Рязанского наместничества; к середине XVII столетия — преобразование одной из внутренних острожных построек в тюремную избу с подчинением указанному наместничеству, а в XVIII веке — окончательное переустройство в тюрьму в связи с изменением геополитической позиции. В статье представлены эпизоды общероссийской практики, с которыми была связана деятельность ряжской тюрьмы, — содержание политических преступников и военнопленных. Исследование имеет широкую область применения: от краеведческих изысканий в архивных материалах до истории пенитенциарной системы в контексте изучения законодательных актов в связке с примерами из провинциальной местности. The article shows the transformation of Ryazhsk Ostrog (fortress) into a penitentiary prison. The relevance of the study lies in a detailed study of the history of one of the ancient cities of central Russia, Ryazhsk, in the context of the changing functions of the defense mechanism of the Moscow State. Several periods of the Ostrog’s evolution are distinguished: its construction as a defensive structure in the middle of the XVI century; transformation into Ryazhsk urban settlement with its socio-cultural population; loss of strategic importance after the expansion of the state borders and obtaining the status of a province of Pereyaslavl-Ryazan vice-governorate; by the middle of the 17th century, transformation of one of the internal Ostrog buildings into a prison hut with subordination to the vice governor, and in the 18th century — the final reorganization into a prison due to changes in geopolitical and political situation in the region. The article presents episodes of national practice, with which the activities of the Ryazhsk prison were connected — the detention of political criminals and prisoners of war. The study has a broad scope: from local history research in archival materials to the history of the penitentiary system in the context of studying legislative acts in conjunction with examples from the region.
