ABSTRACT Seme borderland community in Nigeria is undergoing a rapid economic transition from an agrarian economy to a commercial-oriented economy. The transition is generating shocks and vulnerabilities at the community level. This study assessed households’ food insecurity among the inhabitants of Seme. Randomly selected households (n = 160) participated in this study through a questionnaire survey. Results revealed that 63.8% of the study households were food insecure. Study households’ reported strategies for coping with food insecurity were relatively unsustainable. The study recommends both macro and micro-level strategies to mitigate food insecurity challenges in the Seme borderland community.
