Simple Summary Total thymectomy is the current standard for the treatment of early-stage thymoma. However, recent studies have raised partial thymectomy as an option and brought attention to the thymus’s potential role in protection against autoimmune disease, development of extra-thymic malignancy and overall mortality. Therefore, it’s unclear if an organ-sparing approach is an equivalent alternative. In this context, we compare partial versus total thymectomy for early-stage thymoma using a national database. We demonstrate that partial- and total-thymectomy have similar short- and long-term outcomes. These results may help better inform patients of their surgical options within shared decision making discussions with their surgeon.
