ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This study systematically collects and compiles existing surface gravity data to investigate the characteristics of the positive low-amplitude structures in the southwestern Ordos Basin. As the local gravity anomaly, the high-pass filtered gravity anomaly was obtained using the regularisation filtering method. By integrating the seismic profile data, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the correlation between the amplitudes of the local gravity highs and their corresponding structural amplitudes, thereby identifying the characteristics of the positive low-amplitude structures in the southwestern Ordos Basin. The results indicate a strong correlation between the local gravity highs and the positive structures in the southwestern Ordos Basin. A highly linear relationship exists between the amplitudes of the local gravity highs and their corresponding structural amplitudes, suggesting that smaller gravity highs correspond to lower structural amplitudes. The positive low-amplitude structures are extensively developed in the Yishan Slope, the Tianhuan Sag, and the Weibei Uplift, whereas they are rarely observed in the Western Edge Thrust Belt. KEY POLICY HIGHLIGHTS The Bouguer gravity anomaly and its local variations have been systematically interpreted to reveal structural features. A regularisation filtering method has been effectively applied to enhance the resolution of Bouguer gravity data. A comparative analysis between local gravity highs and corresponding structural amplitudes highlights their strong correlation. The study identifies positive low-amplitude structures in the southwestern Ordos Basin, which have implications for hydrocarbon exploration planning and regional geological understanding.
