ABSTRACT Purpose This mixed-methods study evaluated the effects of a patience-focused psychoeducation program on family caregivers of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Method Fifty-two relatives of service users diagnosed with schizophrenia from western Turkey were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 26) receiving a five-session Patience Psychoeducation Program or a control group (n = 26) receiving standard psychoeducation. Quantitative assessments measured patience, self-compassion, caregiver burden, and psychological distress at baseline and post-intervention. Qualitative data were collected through interviews with 15 participants from the experimental group. Results The experimental group showed significantly higher patience and self-compassion scores compared to controls post-intervention. They also demonstrated reduced caregiver burden and psychological distress. Qualitative analysis revealed four themes: enhanced emotional regulation, development of self-nurturing attitudes, normalization of caregiving challenges, and integration of patience practices into daily caregiving. Discussion This study provides evidence that patience-focused psychoeducation effectively enhances patience, self-compassion, and psychological well-being among family caregivers of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Cultivating patience appears to be a valuable internal resource that enhances caregiving capacity while reducing burden.
