ABSTRACT

The design and implementation of maritime high-way links is an important factor for the economic development of remote areas. This is particularly relevant to the archipelago of Kerkennah in Tunisia, which lacks a fixed link to Sfax City on the mainland. We propose a three-phase approach: first, a bathymetric map is used to generate a Voronoi diagram of the study area; second, this diagram is transformed into a fuzzy connectivity graph; and third, a fuzzy extension of Dijkstra’s algorithm is applied to identify optimal corridors. The approach has been implemented and used to locate maritime corridors linking Sfax City to the Kerkennah archipelago.
