abundance of mine types 3 and 4 was about four times higher than that of mine type 1. The parasitism rate in these mines was 6.5 times lower compared to that in mine type 1. No statistical difference was found in the parasitism rate between mine types 3 and 4. We discuss how the leaf-mining behaviour of M. robiniella may provide an enemy-free space, conferring a survival advantage and supporting a high population density in forested areas.
