Recently power system structure has been changed from the conventional grid, where the power resources were centralized, to the smart grid with distributed power resources due to penetration of renewable energy. In order to manage smart grid system more efficiently, additional communication and computation infrastructures are required. Therefore, smart grid system can be defined as a cyber physical system (CPS) in which physical systems are merged through the communication network which makes them more vulnerable to cyber attacks. This paper investigates the detection of cyber attacks in smart grid system. For this study, the real data from the electric power and intelligent control (EPIC) testbed provided by the iTrust Centre for Reseach in Cyber Security located at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is used. A monitoring system has been developed systematically, which contains several attack detection approaches to detect possible cyber attacks on the EPIC testbed.
