This review compares two main methods of knee meniscus transplantation: allograft meniscus transplantation and autologous tendon transplantation. Allograft meniscus transplantation, developed in the 1970s, is effective but costly. Furthermore, due to regulatory constraints in certain specific countries, obtaining allografts is challenging, thereby preventing this method from becoming mainstream. Autologous tendon transplantation has emerged as a safer, more cost-effective option, though limited by tissue availability and donor-site morbidity. Understanding the advantages and limitations of both methods is crucial for optimizing surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction in meniscus reconstruction surgery.
