ABSTRACT

: Tropical cyclones are among the most destructive natural disasters. Scientific assessment of the spatial distribution of tropical cyclone disaster risks in global marine areas is of importance for the effective management of disaster risks and the promotion of economic development of coastal cities. This study presentsa dataset of spatial assessment of tropical cyclone disaster risks in global marine areas from 1950 to 2023, based on the best track data released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), using ArcGIS tools and big data analysis methods, and integrating the lifecycle attributes and movement trajectories of tropical cyclones. It provides detailed information on the spatial distribution of the impacts of tropical cyclone disasters across global marine areas, with a spatial resolution of 20 km.The accuracy and consistency of the dataset have been rigorously validated through comparison with best track data from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).The dataset demonstrates high reliability and can be employed for global-scale risk assessment of tropical cyclone disasters.Furthermore, it serves as a valuable resource for urban disaster prevention and mitigation planning, while offering critical data support for meteorological and disaster research, policy formulation, and coastal economic development
