ABSTRACT

Highlights • Semantics is processed by left language network, and intonation – by bilateral STG.• Scrambled speech engages salience/executive networks for effortful processing.• Semantic coherence strengthens bilateral IFG-left temporal/IPL connectivity.• Intonation strengthens right IFG–temporal links but weakens IFG–IPL connectivity.• IFG dynamically reconfigures its functional connectivity based on speech input.
