Agroecology integrates ecological principles into agricultural production systems to enhance sustainability, economic viability, and food security. This paper explores the intersection between agroecology and agricultural economics by examining the economic mechanisms through which agroecological practices contribute to sustainable and resilient food systems. Using a conceptual and narrative review approach, the study synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed research and institutional reports to identify how agroecology reduces input dependency, improves cost efficiency, and strengthens resilience through ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, and soil regeneration. The analysis reveals that while agroecological systems can achieve yields comparable to conventional agriculture, their economic performance remains context-dependent, influenced by market access, policy support, and knowledge dissemination. Traditional economic assessments often underestimate the multidimensional benefits of agroecology, including ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, and social equity. The paper concludes that integrating sustainability metrics into agricultural economic models and developing supportive institutional frameworks are essential to unlocking agroecology’s full potential for transforming agricultural production and achieving global food security.
