ABSTRACT

Abstract. Rapid urban development has led to the reduction of productive agricultural land, resulting in greater vulnerability of urban food security. The Integrated Urban Farming System (IUFS) is a sustainable agricultural approach that integrates crop production, aquaculture, and livestock subsystems within a circular resource-use framework. This study aimed to implement and analyze an IUFS model on a limited land area of 100 m² in Sukapura Village, Kiaracondong District, Bandung City. The research employed an applied research approach using descriptive-analytical and limited experimental methods over one production cycle. The IUFS model integrated hydroponic subsystem producing pakcoy, water spinach, and lettuce; Nile tilapia aquaculture; and local chicken farming. The results indicated that the hydroponic system achieved high and stable vegetable productivity, with the substitution between tilapia pond water and liquid organic fertilizer without reducing crop yield. The tilapia and chicken subsystems demonstrated good growth performance and improved feed efficiency through the utilization of vegetable residues. Overall, subsystem integration formed an effective nutrient cycle that enhanced input efficiency and reduced organic waste. The IUFS model developed in this study shows strong potential as a productive, efficient, and sustainable urban farming solution to support urban food security and household economic improvement.
