ABSTRACT

Nowadays, UAVs are becoming a conventional tool for a range of civil applications. Taking into account the sustainable development of all branches of industry, it is reasonable to consider the UAV as a multipurpose device. In this paper, we consider the UAV when performing its primary mission as an instrument to obtain information about wind characteristics. We analyzed the data transfer protocols to determine the possibility of extracting information about wind characteristics. Also, we enlarge the observation of wind-related characteristics by estimation of the gust factor to evaluate the possible areas of atmospheric turbulence. The results of real flight data are analyzed and used to demonstrate the prospect of using a UAS fleet to obtain sparse information about dynamic conditions in the atmosphere for the operative correction of the UAV's trajectory for weather-related dynamic obstacles avoidance.
