ABSTRACT

The disruption of the hedonic balance towards its reduction in patients with affective disorders is increasingly becoming a topic of discussion. Most studies of anhedonia indicate the limited effectiveness of drug-based strategies to overcome it, which makes it important to develop and apply alternative approaches. One of such alternative is using of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS; or transcranial electric stimulation, TES) of the brain, which affects the reward system that controls and regulates behavioral patterns through positive stimuli. Currently, tDCS is actively used in clinical practice for treatment of somatic and neurological diseases, as well as in mental pathology. However, there are not enough studies considering the use of tDCS for the treatment of anhedonia as part of depression. Considering this, we conducted a search for domestic and foreign literary sources on this topic in order to summarize the results of studies evaluating the effectiveness of tDCS in patients with anhedonia as part of the depressive syndrome. The search queries were formed in such a way as to cover the maximum number of publications devoted to the issue under consideration. The search was carried out through scientific electronic databases Cochrane, MEDSCAPE, Pubmed, eLibrary, CyberLeninka, RusMed. Criteria for inclusion, non-inclusion and exclusion were developed for the selection of publications, after which a three-stage selection was carried out. As a result, four publications corresponding to the specified search parameters are included in the review. In a descriptive review, we found evidence supporting the effectiveness of using thermal power plants to reduce the symptoms of anhedonia in depression.
