ABSTRACT

Abstract The reports of naturally occurring outbreaks of aflatoxicosis in poultry are limited in both number and description. This disease was called originally turkey “X” disease (Blount, 1961) because of its prevalence and high mortality in turkeys in England. The histopathology of this disease was described by Wannop (1961). Siller and Ostler (1961) described an outbreak in turkey poults under the name of enterohepatic syndrome. Asplin and Carnaghan (1961) described the occurrence of aflatoxicosis in ducklings and chickens in England and reported an outbreak of the disease in ducklings in Kenya. Outbreaks of the disease in ducks occurred in Austria and Hungary and in chickens in Spain (Allcroft and Carnaghan, 1963). Brown and Abrams (1965) reported on its symptomology and widespread occurrence in ducks and chickens in South Africa.
