ABSTRACT

Introduction A multiple pregnancycontainedin one amniotic cavity is acomparativelyrare situation and is thus of great interest. Moreover, the increasedperinatalwastage and theunusualclinical situations which may arise add to its importance. Since 1935, whenQuigley' published the first comprehensivereview of the subject, it has receivedincreasingattention in the medicalliterature".3.4 . The casepresentedhere illustrates not only someof the problemsthat may arise with any multiple pregnancybut also double fetal survival in the presenceof knotting and intertwining of the two umbilical cords. The latter situation is a commonand often fatal finding with monoamniotictwins.
