The main way of analyzing the effectiveness of a sunscreen is through the sun protection factor (SPF) which can be obtained through in vivo and/or in vitro methodologies. This paper aims to review these methodologies and evaluate the effectiveness of in vitro tests, focused in spectrophotometry ultraviolet, compared to traditional in vivo methods.
