Some years ago, we observed that falling in the previous year was more frequent in patients with cirrhosis than in healthy controls, and showed for the first time that cirrhotic patients, mainly those with cognitive dysfunction, are predisposed to falling during follow-up. Since then, the relevance of falls in cirrhosis has been addressed in the context of their incidence, risk factors, related mortality, associated complications, health care needs, familial and social burden, and health-related quality of life deterioration.
