Highlights • A clear relationship exists between fly abundance and transmission of pathogens predisposing to intramammary infections in dairy cattle.• The use of deltamethrin reduced fly abundance and the possibility of transmitting pathogenic bacteria in the mammary gland.• Fly repellency aids the reduction of the use of antibiotic treatment of mastitis and therefore may minimize the antibiotic resistance (One Health).• Fly control should be included in mastitis management strategy.
Fly repellency using deltamethrin may reduce intramammary infections of dairy cows under intensive management
