Highlights • A novel lateral immunochromatography (IC) assay was developed to detect PEDV antigen.• The IC assay has 96.0% sensitivity and 98.5% specificity compared with real-time reverse transcriptase PCR.• The detection limit for PEDV was 1 × 103 copies.• The IC assay could be stored at 4 °C or room temperature for 15 months without affecting its efficacy.
