Dark Cornish Plumage Pattern: A Preliminary Report

ABSTRACT

Abstract ORAL and epistolary testimony received by the writer suggests that Dark Cornish plumage pattern has long been a thorn in the flesh of investigators; and a personal plaint to the same effect may be contributed. Nevertheless, studies extending over a period of fifteen years have yielded illumination of a sort. Both laced and penciled patterns are still under observation, but a preliminary report on Dark Cornish pattern is submitted in the hope that information provided may prove useful to other investigators. A simplified version of Dark Cornish plumage pattern genotype may be given as (e+ e+ Pg Pg Lg Lg Dk Dk). The basis in experimental evidence for the preceding comprises nineteen test matings, and cumulative statistics on an F2 generation of Dark Cornish × Black-breasted Red, with meticulous analysis of 206 segregants.
