ABSTRACT

In order to study the host-finding behavior of neonate larvae of T. solanivora, two experiments were performed. In the first one, the displacement capacity of larvae to potato tubers was established. Therefore, 50 neonate larvae were located in four different distances and angles with respect to the power supply In the second experiment, the influence of chemical cues on the orientation of neonate larvae to the feeding source was determined. In this case, neonate larvae were placed in front of tubers with and without chemical substances. It was found that first-instar larvae suffer a decrease in their survivor rate when they have to resort to a mechanism different from geotactism to find the potato tubers. On the other hand, the results of the second experiment confirmed that there was no influence of chemical cues on the orientation of neonate larvae to potato tubers.
