Prescribed fire in the Georgia coastal plain in a nine-year-old slash pine plantation that averaged 3.5 inches d.b.h. and 24.5 feet in height brought about a site condition that favored increased diameter and height growth over lesser burned sites. A high percentage of crown scorch greatly reduced the ability of the trees to respond to the beneficial effects of burning.
