Abstract The adsorption of CO on Si(100)-2 × 1 has been studied and characterized by temperature programmed desorption spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy. Furthermore, the relative CO photo-induced desorption yield has been measured as a function of photo intensity and wavelength, from the visible to the near-UV. The results suggest that a substrate mediated mechanism involving photogenerated carriers is responsible for the photodesorption.
