They maintain that they can explain everything we want to say about truth without appealing to anything other than the T‐schema, i.e., the idea that the proposition that p is true i. p. I argue that despite recent claims to the contrary, minimalists cannot explain one important belief many people have about truth, namely, that truth is good. If that is so, then minimalism, and possibly deflationism as a whole, must be rejected or recast as a profoundly revisionary project.","claims":[{"public_id":"cl_ebcde2c085787e747154d2b59700b239","status":"active","text":"If truth is good cannot be explained within minimalism, minimalism and possibly deflationism as a whole must be rejected or recast as a profoundly revisionary project.","confidence":0.92,"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/claims/cl_ebcde2c085787e747154d2b59700b239"},{"public_id":"cl_e1eabcab9dd8c0eec167ed16e5ca4819","status":"active","text":"Minimalism cannot explain the widespread belief that truth is good without resources beyond the T-schema.","confidence":0.96,"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/claims/cl_e1eabcab9dd8c0eec167ed16e5ca4819"}],"concepts":[{"public_id":"co_0123d696f36edef6939e9f7dc47fef0a","status":"active","name":"descriptive project","description":"An approach that aims to describe truth talk rather than revise it.","types":["philosophical approach"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_0123d696f36edef6939e9f7dc47fef0a"},{"public_id":"co_8145f1196c2aa8318f43c20461eeb16c","status":"active","name":"truth is good","description":"The belief or thesis that truth has positive value.","types":["philosophical claim"],"aliases":["the value of truth"],"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_8145f1196c2aa8318f43c20461eeb16c"},{"public_id":"co_abdd2ece032e6c407737b799b25c7bf5","status":"active","name":"minimalism","description":"A view of truth that aims to explain what is said about truth using only the T-schema.","types":["philosophical position"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_abdd2ece032e6c407737b799b25c7bf5"},{"public_id":"co_d882a7c7494b14e32307b248efa877af","status":"active","name":"deflationism","description":"A family of views that treats truth as having a minimal or non-substantive role.","types":["philosophical position"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_d882a7c7494b14e32307b248efa877af"},{"public_id":"co_ff58047ccf089f8df79f0f7d93a16320","status":"active","name":"T-schema","description":"The truth schema stating that the proposition that p is true iff p.","types":["philosophical principle"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_ff58047ccf089f8df79f0f7d93a16320"}],"external_ids":{"DOI":"10.1111/J.0031-8094.2004.00369.X","ArXiv":null,"PubMed":null,"PubMedCentral":null,"MAG":2074713394,"DBLP":null,"ACL":null},"open_access":{"is_open_access":false,"pdf_url":null,"landing_url":"https://sah.borca.ai/papers/144339479","source":null,"pdf_url_source":null,"license":null,"reason":"pdf_url_not_indexed"},"reference_availability":{"status":"available","references_indexed":true,"full_text_available":false,"full_text_source":null,"count_basis":"semantic_scholar_metadata","extraction_status":"not_applicable","reason":null},"source":{"provider":"episteme2","base_corpus":"semantic_scholar_dump","freshness_mode":"unknown","basis":["semantic_scholar_metadata","postgres_metadata"],"limits":["paper metadata is based on indexed upstream scholarly datasets","claims and concepts are available only for extracted papers","absence of claims or concepts means no extracted graph data is available in this response"],"status":"available","degraded":false,"degraded_reasons":[],"diagnostics":{"status":"available","degraded":false,"degraded_reasons":[],"metadata_status":"available","graph_status":"available","abstract_status":"available"},"source_flags":1},"paper_id":631688,"paper_uid":"cbbb1891-d88d-4882-9a29-3c1b03e624ad","canonical_identity":{"paper_id":631688,"paper_uid":"cbbb1891-d88d-4882-9a29-3c1b03e624ad","identity_status":"available","lookup_basis":"semantic_scholar_external_id","compatibility_path":"corpus_id"},"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/papers/144339479"}
