O estudo teve a participacao de 21 mulheres que foram maes na sua adolescencia, com idades compreendidas entre os 14 e os 18 anos na altura do parto e de uma psicologa que trabalha com maes adolescentes. Na altura das entrevistas as maes tinham idades compreendidas entre os 15 e os 35 anos de idade. Foram analisadas 22 entrevistas das quais 17 pertencem a estudos anteriores (Bentes, 1996; Araujo, 2000; Alves, 2003; Cabrita, 2004). Como instrumento foram utilizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas que foram gravadas, e depois transcritas e analisadas pelo metodo da Grounded Theory. Verificamos que algumas maes adolescentes revelam uma indisponibilidade materna em relacao aos seus filhos, manifestada pela falta de paciencia, indiferenca, respostas inadequadas, dificuldade nos cuidados maternos, dificuldade de compreensao dos sinais do bebe, agressividade e atribuicao de caracteristicas negativas ao bebe. Pelo contrario, algumas maes adolescentes conseguem adaptar-se a maternidade e mostram ter disponibilidade materna manifestada pela facilidade nos cuidados maternos, preocupacao com o filho, paciencia, compreensao dos sinais do bebe e pelo brincar com ele.
