Se utiliza un enfoque etnografico empleando tecnicas de observacion no participante de las practicas pedagogicas con uso de recursos informaticos y entrevistas en profundidad a profesores y alumnos pertenecientes a cuatro establecimientos de Educacion General Basica de la provincia de Valdivia, seleccionados para la investigacion. Los principales hallazgos fueron: la utilizacion de los computadores depende de la percepcion que el profesor/a tenga sobre su efectividad en el aprendizaje; la capacitacion que reciben los profesores es identificada como vital para lograr un uso innovador. Tres de los casos son clasificados como transmisor/reproductor y uno practico situacional (Bautista 1994); por ultimo, el computador es usado por los estudiantes mayoritariamente incorporado a actividades de clases de los diferentes sectores. La principal conclusion es que el recurso informatico en una escuela rural presenta mayores posibilidades de usarse efectivamente como material curricular que apoye los procesos de aprendizaje, debido principalmente a que los ninos/as de estas comunidades conocen esta tecnologia por primera vez en la escuela, sin embargo, su uso se torna ineficaz por la inexperiencia e insuficiente preparacion del cuerpo docente en torno a la innovacion con uso de TIC (Tecnologias de la informacion y la
