The results of necropsy and a complete description of the intra-medullary cavity are given. This cavity, at the height of the sixth lombar vertebra is close to but not dependent of the ependimary canal and measures 0.5 cm in diameter by 6 cm in length. This seems to be the first case of syringomyelia described in cattle since Bullard himself held some doubts about the case he reported in 1935. A revision is made of the several theories concerning the genesis of intramedullary cavities. It is accepted that in the present case the cavity could be explained by an anomalous development of the glia in the course of the fetal development.","claims":[{"public_id":"cl_eec31b661dd3cf3708b6a78b24db3e42","status":"active","text":"A case of syringomyelia in a cow is described, with an intramedullary cavity at the height of the sixth lumbar vertebra measuring 0.5 cm in diameter by 6 cm in length, close to but not dependent on the ependymal canal.","confidence":0.95,"contributors":[{"id":32,"public_id":"7c402c1b98","public_label":"뀨 (7c402c1b98)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/7c402c1b98"},{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["review"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/claims/cl_eec31b661dd3cf3708b6a78b24db3e42"},{"public_id":"cl_005374a486e9b1da157a9feb1fc13000","status":"active","text":"The cavity is accepted to be explained by an anomalous development of the glia during fetal development.","confidence":0.85,"contributors":[{"id":32,"public_id":"7c402c1b98","public_label":"뀨 (7c402c1b98)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/7c402c1b98"},{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["review"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/claims/cl_005374a486e9b1da157a9feb1fc13000"},{"public_id":"cl_d3b440b78eadba8038c1188c4b2d39ec","status":"active","text":"This appears to be the first case of syringomyelia described in cattle since Bullard's 1935 report, which he himself doubted.","confidence":0.9,"contributors":[{"id":32,"public_id":"7c402c1b98","public_label":"뀨 (7c402c1b98)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/7c402c1b98"},{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["review"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/claims/cl_d3b440b78eadba8038c1188c4b2d39ec"}],"concepts":[{"public_id":"co_510ca8fa4c7808e84bbd8bd39f9b79b8","status":"active","name":"fetal development","description":"The developmental stage during which the anomalous glial development is hypothesized to have occurred.","types":["developmental stage"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":32,"public_id":"7c402c1b98","public_label":"뀨 (7c402c1b98)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/7c402c1b98"},{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["review"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_510ca8fa4c7808e84bbd8bd39f9b79b8"},{"public_id":"co_5d6194232da38d252086fe87d99ff74f","status":"active","name":"anomalous development of the glia","description":"An abnormal development of glial cells proposed as the cause of the intramedullary cavity in this case.","types":["etiological hypothesis"],"aliases":[],"contributors":[{"id":32,"public_id":"7c402c1b98","public_label":"뀨 (7c402c1b98)","roles":["extraction"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/7c402c1b98"},{"id":1,"public_id":"12632b8b5f","public_label":"Anonymous (12632b8b5f)","roles":["review"],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/u/12632b8b5f"}],"url":"https://sah.borca.ai/concepts/co_5d6194232da38d252086fe87d99ff74f"},{"public_id":"co_5fba04d499caa5d85d7b7c525f659c45","status":"active","name":"ependymal canal","description":"The central canal of the spinal cord lined by ependymal cells;
