Highlights • CBF impairment is found in T2DM and SCD individuals, which might suggest a preclinical stage of dementia.• Comparing to HC, lower CBF in T2DM was due to higher rate of multiple cerebrovascular risk factors.• Unlike T2DM, CBF reduction in AD and VD was due to amyloid deposition and microangiopathy respectively.• Significant negative correlation between adjusted CBF and HbA1c in all cortical regions in healthy control and T2DM.
