The article examines the role of agroecology in sustainable rural development in Ecuador, highlighting its economic, environmental and social benefits. Agroecology reduces production costs by reducing dependence on external inputs, improves profitability and diversifies income, allowing farmers to access niche markets. Environmentally, it promotes biodiversity conservation, improves soil quality, reduces pollution and contributes to climate change mitigation. Socially, it strengthens rural communities, empowers farmers, improves food security and preserves traditional knowledge. However, its adoption faces significant barriers, such as lack of institutional support, poor training, cultural resistance and limited access to financial resources. To maximize its potential, it is recommended to develop favorable public policies, accessible training programs, strategies to change cultural perceptions and adequate financial mechanisms.
