Biologists have long admired the many modes of animal locomotion and the role these modes may play in the survival of species. Engineers find similar inspiration in the myriad ways nature addresses transport, but usually with a different purpose: to improve the speed, agility, stealth, robustness, and efficiency of technologies that serve human needs.
