Open Innovation, a Tool for Globalization: The Case of South Korean SMEs

ABSTRACT

This study explores the phenomenon of open innovation in high tech Korean SMEs. Which mechanisms do lead SMEs to choose a specific model of innovation? The paper includes a literature review as well as an empirical study of internationalized SMEs, based on in-depth interviews, observations, and documents. Open innovation does not always constitute the best model of innovation solution for all SME. This paper proposes a model for assessing the fit between a company and the various models of innovation, and a strategic guide to design an innovation model for successful collaboration with the best partners.
