ABSTRACT

There have been few correlated studies of the enzymological and molecular properties of enzymes which catalyze the same chemical reaction and have been obtained from unrelated sources. Particularly noteworthy has been Velick’s recent review of the comparative biochemistry of the alcohol and glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenases from yeast and mammalian sources (1). The companion paper (2) presents the enzymological characterization of crystalline yeast phosphoglyceric acid mutase (PGA mutase)’ and of a purified preparation of the same enzyme isolated from rabbit skeletal muscle. This paper presents some of the molecular parameters of these two enzymes.
